Someone explain to me Why/When/IF the Wii will have online multiplayer

I got metroid prime 3 the other day and, FINALLY, we have a system that can rival the controls of a PC first person shooter. For those of you that haven't played it, the controls aren't as perfect as a keyboard and mouse, but its pretty damn close and i actually prefer the GAMEPLAY of having to actually point at your targets. The wii doesn't have insane graphic capabilities but a game like counter-strike source or w/e on the wii would be sick sick sick sick sick. So sick to the point where, if nintendo's next console has ps3/360 tpye graphics or better, the PC gaming industry could be doomed. Why is there no equivalent to xbox live for the wii?

wii has online multiplayer now

pokemon/mario strikers/madden 08 are 3 titles that are currently online

fifa 08/guitar hero 3/smash bros/metal of honor heroes 2 are some more titles this year that will have online

it's just taking longer than we hoped to get some online games going [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

btw, metal of honor could very well have even BETTER controls than metroid according to an IGN hands-on, and it'll have 32-player online running at 60fps

Metal of Honor is a horribly mediocre series right now, so that being online is a plus for no one with a brain. Nintendo has been extremely sluggish with their online but who can blame them? They are basically printing money with the console and ideas like Wii Fit. Online just isn't their foucs.

Heh it's true but adding sweet online games can only help them push consoles and games.

If you want good online play I don't see why you would purchase a Wii. I'm a pretty big Nintendo fan, but it is going to be a very long time (probably not this generation) before you are going to be able to have anything like Xbox Live on the Wii.

Obviously, it isn't paramount to the success of the system, but it is encouraging that Nintendo is finally starting to embrace online play after saying they would for years.
