looks more like hes going for a free showdown. i think i bet/ fold like 1/3-1/2 pot on the river. c/c isnt bad because of all the draws, but his turn raise doesnt really look like a draw as much as like ace jack or ace 10. curious to see other peoples views on this.

If there was ever a time for a pot sized bet on the flop, this is it.

Ew, post less read more for a while (no offense, you just have a bit to learn still).

to OP, there are a ton of draws out there so I think I shove, against a nittier player I could fold but he's an unknown.

yeah you have to bet more on that flop, like 100% of the deck is a scarecard on the turn almost.

i shove the turn but its very close

I'm pulling this post back up cos I've just been in a similar spot and followed the advice I recieved about betting the flop stronger. BB is 13/7/0.5 through 45 hands.
At the time I thought he knew I didn't make the flush and so either wanted to rep it or protect his hand against a possible club in my hand. Is this just me looking for an excuse to call?

Poker Stars - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.50/$1 Blinds - 5 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

SB: $354.50
BB: $121.65
UTG: $100.00
CO: $100.00
Hero (BTN): $100.00

Preflop: Hero is dealt 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 Players)
2 folds, Hero raises to $4.00, SB folds, BB calls $3.00

Flop: ($8.50) 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
BB bets $6.00, Hero raises to $24.00, BB calls $18.00

Turn: ($56.50) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
BB bets all-in for $93.65, Hero?

EDIT: It's $72 to call.

My initial thought is if you find yourself getting in this sort of trouble then don't play these sort of hands. Q8s is garbage (button or not) and you're OOP in the first one.

Jeez, I might as well go watch the Howard Lederer DVDs. I play 15/12 which I think is tight enough. There is no way I'm tightening up my button range against a BB who has yet to do anything out of line just to avoid the rare awkward spot. Raising Q8s on the button is something I will only do when I've been kind of quiet.

And why have you only posted half your response?
