Default proper use of M late in Sit&gos

I am trying understand the proper use of M in sngs
I am okay with using M to signal me to push a bit more when I am behind and not wait for a real crisis to occur. But I am not quite sure how to reliably use it when I am in a relatively good position.
For example in a sng with 6 players left. Big stack had about 4,500. I was second with 3000. Next two have about 2000. and then the rest.

My M adjusted for the short table is below 10 suggesting that I need to adjust and get fairly aggressive.
But my actual position at the table suggests that I should hang back a bit and let the shorter stacks take the risks.
I think I was more aggressive than I really needed to be.
What is the correct use of M for these kinds of situations?
And in sngs in general
Thank you. fyi I learn a ton on this site. So thanks again.

The best thing to do is post specific hands.

This one's gonna get locked. No one uses M in STTs, nor does Harrington know what he's talking about for STTs. Read every post on 2+2 STTF for a month, then start posting hands. Read the FAQ.
