Thoughts on 50/50c versus 25/50c
We normally play 25/50c NL, but I'd like to start using a chip set that has 50c chips as the lowest denom. Is it fair to ask my players to make SB=BB just because I want to change chips? Any real impact to the game?

It probably won't make a huge difference if your game plays anything like regular .25/.50c games. That is, pf raises most hands, small blinds never folding in limped pots, etc. etc. It won't really make the game any 'bigger' if everyone is still buying in for the same amount.

We just did this, but went from .50 to 1.00 to get rid of the .25 chips. Everyone loved it. We just use the 1 - 1 blind structure. It's a social/friendly game, so no on ever folded their sb anyway.

I hardly ever fold my small blind either when its limped around, what's wrong with that?

Re: Thoughts on 50/50c versus 25/50c
If you're capable of folding marginal hands due to your position, it's fine. Use caution and only get involved if you flop at least 2 pair on a dry board or an OESD and get the right odds, etc.
Also, it's really fun when you get a low flop like 4 5 7 and then check-raise the guy who c-bet his high cards/overpair -- he's primed to believe that you would indeed play a 6-8 since there were 3 limpers already and the pot odds made 1/2 price practically free. Just don't do it too often, or against a huge stack who a) might not feel it too much if you double through him, or b) will figure you for 2 pair and knows his overpair is good if the board pairs |

I suppose the concept of people never folding their SB is foreign to me. Sure, we'll get a table full of limpers every now and again, but there's almost always a pre-flop raise in there somewhere.

Re: Thoughts on 50/50c versus 25/50c
This will have next to no impact on the game. Buy ins will be the same, pre flop raises will be the same, and as stated, SB folding when limped around is rare anyway. This might hurt the EV and winrates a tin bit of tight players, but thats all. I see no problem with this.
As for the concept of people not folding in the blinds being foreign, you either play high stakes, or not live, b/c this is commonplace in home games or poker clubs with loose action. |
