Default $22 MTT / Call a huge all in with A/K Suited early on with chips?

Early on in a Stars $22 NL Hold Em MTT I was up in chips at 8,500 (average was only 3,500). I'm on the button and I'm dealt A/K suited. Blinds were still only $100/$200. A player in mid position with 10,000 in chips shoves all in. Everyone folds quickly to me on the button.

What do you do here with A/K suited. Call or fold?

I just got moved to this table so I didn't know much about this player other then this large overbet he is making.

I agree...I folded, but wanted to see if my decision to fold would be based on similar reasoning as some here.

I think it makes sense to assign a range of 55+, AQ+, AK to big overpushes like this early on.

No point gambling here. Massive increase in variance for very little, if any return.

Thanks, I folded based on the fact I feel most of the time someone does this early on they have a mid pair. I had plenty of chips and no reason to get them all in here.

On a side note, and I guess to brag a little , I went on to win the entire thing for my single biggest cash yet. BUT even after the tourney, I was still wondering how many players would fold A/K suited there. I told another player who does decent and he says he calls there (I could go into his reasons, but it seems people here agree with me).

I agree that this is a fold, but I wouldn't fault a call. By definition, someone open-shoving 10K at 100/200 is almost assuredly NOT a good player. Therefore, they could easily have some AQ nonsense. OR, they could have AA and be "ZOMG ALLIN". I can see calling because a doubleup here and you have a MASSIVE stack, and you are only really killed by one hand. On the other hand, you are most likely a 55-45 dog (I would guess 99-QQ as his most likely hands) and have a very nice stack, well into the Green Zone.

So I fold, but I don't think a call is uber-donktastic or anything.
