I said to my friend on MSN, "my word he has TT" as his raise preflop followed by a check on the flop seemed suspicious. However his check could have also been a clever trap with JJ-AA. Is there anyway I can fold here? I also considered a fold preflop? What's your line?

you played it decently, although your turn check is questionable... It's much easier for him to put you on a draw of some type that way. As for folding the river, i just don't see how you can do so with a checked turn. Did he have it?

There is no way you can fold, people will play smaller flushes this way.

Yes he did have it. I knew it... and i called anyways. I thought the flop-check gave it dead away because would you really check in that spot with an overpair. I said to my friend, he has TT, i requested time and then i called anyways. Is there a point in which trusting your instincts becomes more important than anything else, regardless of the pot odds or the strength of your hand?

this is somewhat paraphrased from an old post, but sometimes our subconcious is right and we cant explain why. it is able to process all these things that we are not actively thnking about, and make a decision. thats why sometimes no matter how good odds are or how strong out hand is, some part of our brain says toss it.

Not only do you have to make hands but you also have to control the pot size. Once the board pairs it's much easier / wiser to just check call.

On-line poker is almost always about the math. You put him on A HAND, not a range of hands. The nut flush on a paired board is a risky venture, but you have to beat a decent 2nd best hand to win a large pot. IMHO, a naked 8 (A-8 sooted), the K hi flush, and a turned FH all play a similar line here. As another poster replied, if you were sure of the boat, why did you bet the river?

Either way, this is a clear call due to your equity vs. his hand range. IMO, on-line reads are nothing more than betting patterns which once again is more math (statistics & probability) based.

What were you hoping to achieve by posting this hand, anyway?
