5-10 Venetian: Suited Semi-connector Stupidity?
Villain is Vladimir, a tilty regular with anger management issues
Vladimir sees me as a tough player, but I think he would still pay me off if he had top pair or an overpair No read on small blind Vladimir raises to 50 in early position I call in middle position with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 others call Flop: (200) A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] SB bets 40 Vladimir calls I call with my inside straight and flush draw Turn: (320) blank SB bets 180 Vladimir folds I call River: (680) blank SB bets 500 I fold My question is whether I should have called the raise preflop. My thinking was that I would call with another suited semi-connector like J9s, so why not with KJs? I did so purely on suited semi-connector value, so if the flop comes with a K or a J and he bets out, I'm not going to go very far with the hand, especially if there are other people seeing the flop with us. Feedback? |

Re: 5-10 Venetian: Suited Semi-connector Stupidity?
Can't give you much advice without knowing how deep you are.
Pre-flop is marginal. As much as you say you're only calling trying to hit straights and flushes, you're probably not open-folding on a dry king-high or jack-high flop. KJ is dominated by a standard UTG opening range while something like 78s is not. You should also be more inclined to play these types of hands if a few others have already entered the pot and you're closer to the button. Hands with big implied odds need position to be worth playing, generally. Assuming everyone is around 100BB deep, I like a big flop raise, calling a shove. A 1/5 pot bet and a call by the pre-flop raiser is a nice invitation to make a play here, especially since you can generally count on the pre-flop raiser to show more aggression against the weak SB lead with any hand he feels good about as the board is so draw-heavy. |

Standard
Mmm didnt see the size of the flop bet. I still don't think you have to raise though, so many nut outs so deep. I think I slightly perfer a call. |

You played it okay. With a draw this big you can certainly consider a flop or turn raise, although with the stack depths as they are that can lead to some awkward spots on future streets if you get called and miss, or if you get 3 bet on the flop you're forced to put in a ton of money when you'll often be up against a set.

Lol I laugh at all the live players posts because the questions they ask are so utterly standard and they are so v v bad.
Raise the flop. |

Re: 5-10 Venetian: Suited Semi-connector Stupidity?
I would like the preflop call a lot more if you were in better position.
And definitely raise the flop big. Although Vladimir likes to trap, his call of that tiny bet doesn't seem like a big hand to me. |

lol @ live players who can't play this hand but sit that deep [/ QUOTE ] SB actually had a set, genius. I saved a ton of money by playing it the way I did. I will also add that live pros can buy in super deep like I do, and can therefore have a lot more experience playing deep than online pros. |
