I'm interested in this play. Is villain LP or SB? I think this makes a significant difference.

Also, in the HH you are first to act at the flop. Where are the blind/s?

Yes, because we have position. Take the free river card if offered.

I'm almost positive villain is CO or button, and 3betting could easily get the caller out with EXACTLY the type of hand you want him in there with.

Yeah, good point. We likely have 50% equity, and by folding out the 3rd guy most of his equity goes to villain; we only gain a few percent. Calling may be better. I didn't see the positions properly. On the other hand, if you think he will easily call 2 cold, you should definitely raise.

there's 5sb in the pot before we bet. when we bet, get a caller, and get raised there's 9sb in the pot. if we 3bet and get called in one spot there will be 12sb in the HU pot. if we only call the raise and don't try to blow the caller out, there will be 9sb in the pot plus our call and the caller's call for a pot of 11sb. we have a pot of one sb less, but we have doubled our implied odds by keeping the caller in the hand.

another thing that it's important to understand is HU, we'll often have at least around 48-52% equity on average(48% against a hand like A9 and 52% against a pair of aces or queens) against the flop raisor. something to keep in mind, however is that if we only call and leave the 3rd player in, OUR EQUITY OFTEN DOESN'T CHANGE! while we have reasonable equity HU we have a monsterous equity advantage 3 handed. only calling keeps our implied odds healthy, helps hide the strength of our hand(when we 3bet are you still firing the turn UI? if not, your hand is face up), and only gives up a half a sb to do all of this. when we add people, hands like top pair/twopair actually have money taken away from them, but our equity holds steady. for that reason, if we don't need to clean up pair outs we don't want to 3bet and get it HU.
