Extracting files
I'm having hell extracting zip files lately. I first noticed the problem when trying to extract an AHK script for SnGs. It took about 15 minutes for a very small amount of data.
Today I decided to extract some archived hand histories and, based on the one that's now been running 30 minutes, it's going to be an all day job. Windows XP Pro, 1GB RAM, hundreds of MB of free disk space, plenty fast for everything else. Are zip files now automatically submitted to Homeland Security before being unzipped, or any other ideas? |

Re: Extracting files
Are you using the Windows native archive ability? Can you try downloading WinZip or something, to see if that works any differently?

Re: Extracting files
There's many reasons you could be having this problem.
Open up your Task Manager (alt+ctrl+del once) and check for what applications/programs are being run, and which ones are using the most memory. Figure out which ones need to be open, which don't, and check for anything unusual like a program using 99% of your ram. Reboot your computer and try again. Re-install clean copies of WinZip / WinRar and try again. And of course the usual cleaning up routine: * run an anti-spyware program like AdAware * run a decent anti-virus program * run diskscan to check for errors * run disk defragmenter Like 99% of the time this should fix your problem. If not, it will at least narrow down your problem. |
