Amusing Hands, First time playing Live (Beau Rivage/Biloxi)
Quick trip report.
We went out to eat for my wifes birthday and decided to give live poker a shot at Beau Rivage in Biloxi. My wife and I both play 10NL online at Full Tilt and are breakeven to small-winner players. We have watched poker on TV, but never played live ourselves. We took 100$ each (min buyin) to the poker room and asked for seats at the 1-2 NL table. They only had 1 seat open, so we decided I would take it and she would watch, and then sit when another seat opened up. I was nervous as hell and told the dealer it was my first time playing live, and asked him to let me know if I did anything wrong. They swapped dealers right as I sat and I had to pay a time collection of 6$, which I thought was kinda cheesy, not having played a hand, but since it was my first time there, I went along happily. Stack 94$ Hand 1 9h Th UTG Fold Villian is an older Asian fellow with a younger asian wife/girlfriend/whatever hanging on his shoulder and probably $800 in front of him. He has played 3 out of the last 3 hands, for large pots, relatively aggressively since I sat and started watching/playing. Stack $94 Hand 2 Ad Ac 5-6 limpers to me, I make it 15 total from the Big Blind 2 Folds, MP (Asian fellow) calls, rest folds, HU to the flop. 9c 9h 5c I lead out for 30 into a 40ish pot. Villian reraises enough to put me all in (another 50ish). I of course call, turn and river blank, and he flips 9T. Busto in 2 hands :/ I stand up and offer the seat to my wife, she sits. She folds 2 hands. Stack $100 Wife Hand #3 As Qs Im not sure of the exact action, but she gets 10$ish in preflop with 2 callers. Flop A Xs Xs Not sure how the rest of the hand goes, but with TP2K and the nut flush draw, someone makes their straight, the flush misses, and she manages to get to showdown with her Top pair and not get stacked. Wife Hand #4 Stack 43$ KK She raises PF, gets 4 callers Flop 9 5 2 (dont know suits, but not monitone) She shoves for a little less than a Pot Size Bet, 2 callers. Side pot forms and they play the turn and river. One of them makes another straight. 6 Total hands, AA, KK, AQs with TP2K and nut flush draw and we are busto. We had a great time, and felt good about our limited(hah!) play, and managed to get some sleep since we had to work today. The people and poker room at the Beau were nice and we will definitely return when we want to play live poker. |

Re: Amusing Hands, First time playing Live (Beau Rivage/Biloxi)
I had my first live poker experience at the Beau as well. My experience was a bit better, I played about 4 hours and ended up +$260. You definitely want to go back, you'll get your money back out of them.
When I was there it took me nearly an hour to get a playable hand. I was thrilled when I saw TT, until the dealer called misdeal. I was less than thrilled. More junk for a while then I started running pretty hot. My only problem is the more I play live, the more I love it and the less I care to play online. |

Welcome to live play =)
I do agree with the above reply - heck I stopped playing online (though for multiple factors) and just play live now. Regarding the time charge: that's the standard. When a casino takes time in lieu of rake, it is taken at the beginning of a new dealer's shift at the table. Just bad luck on your timing there. Rough run - hopefully next time it goes better (though I can't imagine it running much worse!). |

Wow, it can only get better! At least you both played well
I, too, love live play now. I have a few home games I play in, but I love heading to the boat. Can't wait for my next trip on Aug. 25! |

OP don't get discouraged about live play. Keep in mind that those people who play ATC poker in a NL game are either really good or really bad. At 1/2 NL, I'm going with really bad. Most travel somewhere to play live & they aren't gonna sit on the sidelines either if you know what I mean. As someone else pointed out, you'll make your money back from them with interest.
