In Defense of Sports?
What is the LEGAL rationale for bans on specific types of sports betting.
I understand the various leagues haven't devised a soloution to disincentivize their athletes/coaches/officials from betting, but how in the world is it legally defensible for leagues to use the law to ban outside parties from gambling on their outcomes. Why isn’t the ACLU involved? Why can't I bet on sports? I think a reasonable free market approach would have an official league operated system which monitors suspicious activity, incentivizes players to win (paid per win, with a smaller a fixed salary), and stiff fines for violating the contract to not bet on games the player can inlfuence. This way, all court have to do is enforce contracts. Why is it acceptible for business to use to law to protect itself from fair competition. I'm baffled and sad that lobbying has been allowed to be so powerful for so long. -My 2 Cents |

I guess we need to give congress/senate better incentives to look out for us, or just do away with them all together. WTF do they really do anyway? |
