Default Getting full value

PokerStars .25/.50 limit 10 max

SB 82.2/2.2/1.37/45 hands
Hero in BB with 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
UTG+1 11.1/8.9/.83/45 hands
MP2 85.0/22.5/.91/40 hands

UTG+1 raises, MP2 calls, SB calls, Hero calls

Flop: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Very co-ordinated board

SB bets, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls, MP2 raises, all call

Maybe I should have raised to protect my hand??

Turn: K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Draws remain the same but hope someone hits TP

SB bets, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls, MP2 calls

Maybe I should have raised here too to protect my hand?

River: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I am now worried about 99.

SB bets, Hero raises, UTG+1 folds, MP2 raises, SB folds, Hero?

Well, uh, you played pre-flop alright.

Raise flop for value and maybe to protect against gutshots.
Raise turn for value.
Re-raise river for value.

Don't assume the worst.

I definitely raise the flop.
Lead or raise the turn.
A river cap is probably fine but calling the three bet is probably OK too. Just don't fold .

how did you come to this conclusion?

this is really mubsy and will cost you monies if you continue to think like this.

I really dont like it when people dont bet their sets...and that applies to this hand. yuck...and then I realise that SB and MP are basically morans who want to give you their money with any two cards. uuggghhh.

That reminds me of a live hand I played the other night. I don't recall the preflop/flop action, but on the turn some woman check-raises. On the river she bets and gets called by one player. She turns her hand over and says "I missed". Her hand was a pocket pair with only one overcard showing on a drawless board. It's as if she opened her mouth and words spilled out without having any cognitive thought behind it.

Your worry reminds me of that.

uhhh ... you have a set on a highly connected two toned board ...

why are you calling - raise as you'll be getting called with all sorts of one card draws, top pairs, overs, flush draws (perhaps I can see just calling and waiting for a 'safe' card on the turn - but let's not go too far with that)

on the turn ... seriously - now, if I were your friend i would give you a really hard backhand accross your face

on the river

More postflop raises. Not for protection, but for value.

Raise Flop for value...MAYBE could be considered protecting your hand (which I guess it technically is if they are on draws), but they're coming along anyway.. I'd also cap flop if it is raised behind you. You have to think that you have the best hand because the SB is only calling after a raise on the flop, not 3-betting.

Turn: As played, raise.. this is also for mostly for value.. Nobody has improved to KKK (they'd have raised preflop). People are very likely drawing dead against you at this point. You need to raise to protect (although they'll call, but you still face them with an incorrect decision) AND for value.

River: Dear lord I'm capping this river. sure, you're beaten by KK, 98, 99, or 88, but 3 of those (with the stats your giving us on your opponents) would have been raised PF. Since UTG+1 did raise PF, you MAY be against these hands, but more likely you are up against AK or KQ of clubs. Someone probably only has three 8's. You're more likely a winner here than you are a dog. BET.

Nick
