Default 1/2 Live Flopped 8s full, then I freeze up

1/2 NL live game. Villain just sat down a few hands ago. Only read is he showed down A6o in a three-way pot with top pair, which he check-called to the river.

Five-way limped to me in the BB with 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. I check. (Pot $10)

Flop: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Checks around.

Turn: A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

I bet $10, UTG villain calls, middle-position limper calls.
(Pot $40)

River: Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

I bet $25, UTG raises to $50. MP folds. I think a while, villain goes "Well I guess you don't have the eight." Villain has about $200 behind, I cover.

Thoughts on river action?

Bet the flop anyway, now shove the river.

Push. You are only afraid of A8/Q8 in a family pot, and I think this is AK/AQ/maybe even AJ here most of the time. Yes, AK gets limped in live play because people want to 'hit' the flop.

Your line makes it look like you have a weak ace.

I think I shove this river for value, AK/AQ are calling, which should give you plenty of equity against the times you are up against A8/Q8.

Do like Static-X and PUSH IT.

Sure you might be beat, but that'd be a cooler. You aren't folding, calling is weak. Trip 8's might call a push. Especially if you look like you pushed in response to his table talk. Live, people call with all sorts of stuff. Heck if he had just AT or something I bet he would think about it.

Push. A min-raise will scare him a bit, inducing either a fold or call. Pushing gives the impression you're bluffing the 8 and want him to go away.

1/2 Live I expect him to call with just about any A.

Thanks for all the responses fellas.

My thought at the time was he'd only call a shove with a better hand, but given that it's 1/2 live the shove sentiment is probably right; he may call with a few worse hands. I think in hindsight Illini's right - to him I probably have a weak ace.

OTOH, raising another $100 (which was my first inclination, if we were deeper stacked) commits me to calling his shove too.

Min raises always worry me. Just a weird spot and a weird hand given the stack sizes.

Instashove until he makes his little comment. That scares me a bit. Whenever people say 'guess you don't have x' that means A LOT that they have whatever beats x. If you have a flush on a paired board and the guy says "i don't think you got the flush, i'm all in" fold fold fold fold.

Also I would have led 40 on river, b/c an ace is not folding.

I would bet the flop and lead bigger on the river.
As played I think you can't get away from this live. I don't know how deep you guys are but I would definitely put in some sort of raise.
