Default Playing turn in position vs passive villain w/a mediocre hand.

Villain is a passive station.

Me and a friend have been discussing this situation and what line is best to take. My habit is usually just to mash the bet button until I meet resistance, but he argues that in some cases we're better served by checking behind to induce a river bluff from villain. This has the additional benefit of getting us to showdown cheaply when we have a mediocre hand in a WA/WB situtation.

Please discuss

Easy easy bet. If he c/r's you know you need to improve to call on river.

You want to make these value checks on dry boards and/or against aggro villains.

Since this board is very drawy and since villain is passive this would not be a good spot for a value check.

You do realize that this spot is not at all a WA/WB spot right?

There are situations where you'll check behind to induce bluffs, but this is certainly not one of them.

*grunch*

Easy VB in my opinion, if you get raised on the turn you know where you are...

Also, i think i can guess why someone would wanna check to induce here, but srlsy I would rather pick up the pot now & not give a FC to JT/QJ/QT/etc.

if you ask me, I would say' your friend is suicidal, you played the hand correctly on the flop, you have top pair with a good kicker, so why would you check and give a freecard so others can get a free chance to beat you? this is absolutely absurd. on the turn a check might be in order, but it's debatable, this will save you even more if he checks behind you cus of the bets being bigger, and if you think he is bluffing now, when a scare card come, lets say its more likely, he would bluff at this board than the flop then you can call he'm down
