Default What is My Net Karma

Do I owe the universe or does it owe me?

Last Friday night: I went out with several friends and spent $400 on booze. Fun was had by all.

Today: At work I was getting ready to go through a door. The old decrepit cleaning lady, pushing her huge ass old decrepit lady cleaning cart, was getting ready to go through a door. I saw that I was going to have to hold the door for her so I took the long way to m y destination so that I wouldn't have to hold the door.

So who owes whom?

Why did you decide not to help open the door for her?

i don't really see how these are comparable...it would make more sense if you had donated 400 to charity or something...i suppose that both things are in essence for your own good so i think you owe the universe...although i don't think not opening a door is worth 400 monies...

She is weird and schizo. I was afraid she would try and talk to me.

Taking friends out for a night on the town and footing the bill does not get me positive karma?

this is not what you wrote in the op...but i don't think that going out with friends and getting drunk is karma+, as much fun as it may have been...not helping an old lady is pretty douchey...

To my defense I was already pissed and didn't feel like dealing with an old lady that talks to herself. If she tried to strike up a conversation with me I'm afraid I would have said something like "Shut the [censored] up and get through this door. I have someplace to be".

By the way. Her conversations are pretty much just her telling you that she has wet meat in her socks.

Surely you didn't think I spent $400 on myself? I don't need to spend that much on myself when I go out because I know I will give myself some at the end of the night no matter how much I spend.

This depends. Do you expect the act of generosity to be reciprocated? Do you tell others about your generosity to be patted on the back?

In my estimation, the true spirit of giving requires that it is given from the heart, with no expectation of receiving something in return. The act of giving is enough reward. When the intention is pure and good, the universe will reward you.
