Default HU advice

Ok, hoping this isn't too newb of a question. I'm a solider and as such have got a good little group of friends that we play poker with frequently. There is one in particular that has gotten my goat (and more frequently my chips). His only real poker attribute is trash talk and reading his opponents. He plays super loose, can be a calling station, sees every flop even when we play a full table against raises and reraises and frequently comments about my "stupid percentages" when myself and other players talk about game theory, etc. My problem is I play pretty well HU with actual poker players but let this guy suck me into his game of seeing too many flops and chasing too many long shot draws. So my thought is that if I can go in with a concrete blueprint I would have an easier time sticking with it. I know that I have to play small ball and just chisel at his stack but what else can I do here? Sorry if this is long winded but wanted to include as much info as possible.

If he sees every flop you should probably be raising more with solid premium hands and good drawing hands. He sounds like a maniac type player, you won't generally win against those guys trying to keep the pot small. You also will almost never win as many pots as them.

Its for fun but also we play for reasonable amounts of money, normally depending on table size we'll play $50-$100 winner take all stakes so enough to sting, a good purse for the winner, and good bragging rights. The upcoming game between he and I is actually a bit of a grudge match because he constantly goads me at work around other people, I know I'm infantile but I know I can outplay this guy and I need to prove it for me to feel like I'm onto that next level.

What sort of structure is this grudge match?

we normally stick to steady blinds, if we play 1000 chip stacks we'll play like 25/50 until one goes bust.

Terrible reason to play, IMO.

Hate, vengeance, glory, a poker player seeks not these things...

So you play 20bbs deep. You should be able to stick to a decent basic strategy to hold an edge in this.

What is his normal raise size? Expand about his preflop play.

Not exactly those things, this is a guy that has always been a thorn in my side and its kind of one of my walls that I need to get past mentally in my poker game.

Every time I see those guys, they'll know they got the best of me.

I'll never have balance that way, not with them, not with Ali... not with me.
