Now, I felt the A was the worse card so I give up the hand. But suppose a non-broadway came off and he checks to me again? What do I do then?

What would you do if a non-A,K,Q came off on the turn?

make another bet? nah id prob. be done with the hand after that bet on the flop

You could bet pot on the flop.

I play the turn the same for anything but a 5. I would consider calling the river if both turn and river were blanks and villain was very aggressive. Usually I'm done after the flop though.
