Default How the hell do you deal with bad beats?

This is seriously beginning to tilt the madness out of me. I can't go one tourny without talking at least 2 major huge at crucial times. It's been months.

I've posted hand history, it's not the hands, it's just bad luck.

Do you play mind games like Shannon Elisabeth and pretend that positive imaging actually does something? Maybe it at least keeps you from wanting to throw your monitor.

Do you talk a long walk, play multiple tables at the same time, shoot people on line?

I'm not the only one who gets pummeled like this, so I need some tips on remaining level. I'm beginning to hate poker.

I like to think that there are worse things than busting from a poker tournament.

AA vs 22 you're losing once every five times. It's part of the game. The variance in MTTs can be huge. If poker makes you want to kill yourself (or others) - DON'T PLAY.

Understanding the huge amount of variance inherent to the game. Understanding that without that variance the game would not be highly profitable (in the long run). As in, people would realize they suck and not put their money on the table (think chess).

bad beats equal out. if you are getting money in good its going to seem that way but if you are getting money in good all the time you arent getting all in enough and maybe u r a tightie who if is always short is only 1 hand away from being gone.

forget elizabeth she took a bad beat in the National Heads UP tourn and tightened up so badly she absolutely got steamrolled by a guy from full tilt.

I say, something to this effect in the chatbox:

1) NH. GG.

2) NH. WP. GG.

3) Asdfja;ljdfa;lkj. GG.

Then I yell and scream (this is the bad part that I really need to work on). About 5 minutes later, I feel ok. Not better, but okay. I wake up the next day and tell myself I am good at poker. That seems to be enough to keep me playing.

Note. Scientific research has shown that catharsis (i.e. venting anger by punching, hitting, yelling, etc.) does not reduce anger or stress.

Totally agree, find something to kick.

Obviously you're going to be upset if you take a beat on the FT bubble, at the FT, or late for a big stack. However, when I find the first hour bad beats getting to me I know it's time to take a couple days off and regroup, because I'm on tilt. Variance is a bitch, and everyone goes through phases where it really gets to them.
