Default Advice on tipping the dealer?

I recently played my first b&m game and loved it. I caught on pretty quick to most of the things so that everyone did not know i hadn't played in a casino before. But, one thing I kept forgetting to do was tip the dealer. I would always tip them a bit late, as they were shuffling after the next pot had been played I would give it to them.

I am just curious, what is a good tip size after winning the pot. It's a 1/2 game and I was tipping $1 after most pots, I did tip $3 on a couple big pots, one was ~$85 and one was ~115. Am I being too cheap? I just don't see the point in giving them much, they are making 8-12 bucks a round for nothing really. They dont even shuffle, an automatic shuffler does it.
