Trip Report: Spirit Mountain Indian Casino-Low Poker content

So I decided to make the 90 minute drive from Portland, OR to the biggest poker room in the state at the Indian Casino, Spirit Mountain. I had played there before, but not for a while because I can find games locally without much trouble or La Center, WA is just 30 min north and the they now have the 4-40 spread limit.

Driving to SM from Portland is a giant pain in the ass. It is on one of the 2 busiest routes to the Oregon coast yet in the states infinite wisdom 95% of the trip (after leaving civilization) is a 2 lane [censored] road that is patrolled like no other stretch of road in this state. Needless to say this drive could be 60 minutes instead if not for all these nit sons of bitches who are afraid of a little ticket. If you are coming from out of town and wish to make this trip I highly recommend making a weakend out of it because this stretch of road is PREMIER wine country for the most delicate Pinot Noir variety. I personally do not like wine but I guess there are people out there who like sour grapes fermented to a mere 13% alcohol content. I say good for you but I prefer my alcoholic beverage to contain at least 40% alcohol.

The Poker room is a nice place and I do enjoy the atmosphere. It has about 20 tables and spread 1-2nl up to 5-10 nl on a regular basis as well as 2-4 to 30-60 limit. They also regularly have 4-8 Omaha/8. they will spread any game they have enough interest for, obvioulsy. Last night they even had stud hi/lo for a short time. I get on the list at about 6:30 and get on the 1-2nl table about 7pm.

I'm pretty card dead for a while plus I am trying to size up the players. There are 4 65+ people at the table, sweet, a Mexican who bought in short stacked, a couple 20 somethings, a 40ish year old Asian (not crazy Asian surprisingly) and me. Pretty uneventful for a while until the Mex who is UTG makes it 12 to go and gets a couple callers. Flop is all rags-rainbowed. He is first to act and immediately pushes and gets 1 caller. The Mex pushed with AQ off and the caller hit top pair. Needless to say the Mex hits an A on the river, Viva el Burro!! Few hands later I have the button and the UTG straddles. It folds around to me and I see QQ. I pop it to 12, small blind calls, Big folds and the straddle reraises to 20. I call and so does SB. Flop is AKx, [censored]. I check, SB checks and UTG makes it 35. We fold and he shows A10 off. Huh you think you had an ace here?

I proceed to get cold decked for like an hour and am down 5o bucks or so. I'm in seat 1 and a spot opens up at seat 7 so I move so I can see the table. That in combination with the new setup up that the 85 year old eastern European regular asks for seems to help because within 10 min I'm up 150 thanks to quad 9's, big slick and another pair of pocket q's. This random luck seems to energize Franz because anytime a player leaves for the next 2 hours he proceeds to take their seat. He switched places more times than Lindsey Lohan has been arrested. Meanwhile I go completely card dead again and can hit nothing.

About 10:30 a early 20's guy sits down. He proceeds to pull out his Ipod and put on his sunglasses. Sweet, donator in seat 2! Wait he is not done getting his outfit together. I am stupified by his next move. He proceeds to pull out a cigarette and let it dangle from his mouth but yet does not light it. I feel I have seen this before...Huh, I can't place it. So any way this [censored] idiot also happens to be a rude loud mouth piece of [censored] who proceeds to piss off all the fish at the table and tightens the entire game. No one is willing to play when he is in the pot out of spite because he is acting like such a dick. He took down a medium sized pot shortly after sitting and yelled out "bye bye now". WTF? He is acting out of turn, calling out hands he puts people on when not involved...just being a complete [censored]. Other players call the floor on him twice. At one point the pregnant GF of another player comes up and asks how her man was doing. Loud mouth pipes up with "half of his chips are mine so don't worry about it". He does not know these people and was just rude as hell to the dudes pregnant girl. How that guy did not punch that [censored] right there I do not know. I definitely would have. Slowly one by one we all left. I cashed out up 135 after about 4.5 hours.

I forgot to mention the 60ish lady sitting in seat 8 won a cruise drawing fro a one week cruise to Mexico that is being put on by cardplayer magazine. About every half hour casino employee would hand out these entry slips to players on the tables. Our table kept giving em to this lady. She must have had 75 of those slips by the time of the drawing.
