Default Limit O8, large pot, what to do on turn

5 players, Limit Omaha 8, low stakes

C/O - semi loose, calling station, preflop raises can be on the light side, bets bare nut low draws aggressively

BB -very loose, calling station

C/O opens for a raise, I three bet on button with AKT2 ( my suits don’ t matter ), little blind folds, BB caps, all three of us call.

Flop is 787 with 2 clubs and a spade ( I don’t have clubs )

BB checks, C/O bets, I raise, BB calls as does C/O

Turn is 2 diamonds

everyone checks around

River is 5 hearts - everyone checks around.

Question - when opponents checked to me on turn, should I have bet?

[/ QUOTE ]Yukon CPA - If you think there is a reasonable chance they would give up at that point, yes.

The way you turn strong low one-way hands into scoopers is betting when maybe nobody has a decent high hand.

There's a chance you'll get quartered, but the chance of turning your one-way hand into a scooper far out-weighs that possibility.

And if the ploy doesn't work, you're more likely to not get quartered than to get quartered.

The only problem I see is that you may have tipped your hand by playing aggressively too early. Do you fish? If you do, you know you have to wait just that slight short time before you set the hook. It's a matter of timing. Jerk the hook too fast and you lose the fish.

Getting back to poker, if you simply limp before the flop and then pounce on the flop, your opponents can't very well tell what you have. They probably will then put you on trip sevens.

That's just one playing style. Lots of good players would do it differently. And it's fine to mix it up.

At any rate, yes, bet the turn and if you get calls, then bet the river. Your goal here is to turn your one-way hand into a scooper.

Hi Buzz,

Just to make sure we are on the same page, you are seeing that my one way hand is a pair of deuces?

Yukon CPA - Yikes! I missed that. Thanks for the correction. My apologies.

In that case, you're in bad shape when you get counterfeited on the turn. Once in a while you might try a bluff here, but usually not.

[/ QUOTE ] LOL, thanks.

I feel that if I post the results of this hand, that it will actually be informative. With a large pot like this and few players and a counterfit card hitting the turn, perhaps betting just to eliminate 1 opponent ( not necessarily as a bluff ) would be beneficial.

here are the results: Neither opponent had a flush draw. BB had 45KJ. C/O had A26Q. They split the pot. BB with a pair of fives for high and cutoff with an Ace 6 for low. I know this is unorthodox posting results, but in this case, I think it illustrates a possible point when the pot has become very big. I don't think I drive out BB with his made low and gutshot draw with a turn bet. But there should be a huge chance the Cutoff would have folded to a turn bet, allowing me half the pot.

I'm not an O8 expert but I don't get why you're raising the flop. You have 16 outs twice making you just over 50% to take to half the pot, or maybe only a quarter or a sixth. Is it standard to bluff in this way?

It's not really bluffing. It's raising to drive out a better hand so you have more outs in a big pot. If you can get XXQQ to fold, you've done great.

I'm guessing it can also buy you a free card on the turn on some occasions if opponents put you on trips or better.

...if you don't like money.

betting into 4 other players with no hand/no draw here is a total spew.

[/ QUOTE ] The game was a five handed game, but throughout this hand, I only had 2 opponents.
