PLO200: AKK8 on 886 2-color
PLO200. 9-handed.
Hero is BTN 26/15/4 (that session) with $214 and A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. HJ is 51/19 over only 30 hands with $774, but he's also playing PLO500 and seems to make accurate comments on the game there (I'm railing that game) so maybe isn't bad. 2 folds, 3 limps, Hero raises to $13, 2 folds, BB calls, MP calls, HJ calls, BTN calls. Flop 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($66, 5 players) 4 checks, Hero bets $66, 2 folds, HJ raises to $264, BTN folds, Hero...? |

Re: PLO200: AKK8 on 886 2-color
Tough spot. If you fold, you're often folding the best hand here, and it feels like you're getting bluffed. If you call, you're rarely much better than 50% to win the pot as villain likely has an 8 and live kickers and sometimes a flush draw.
Villain seems to want you to fold, though, and you're getting just under 2-1. You're only really in trouble against the flopped full, but you're never dead. I call here simply because there's no money behind and villain can occasionally be making a move (since you raised pre) with a wrap + flush draw. |

[ QUOTE ]
Hero is BTN ... <snip> BTN folds, Hero...? [/ QUOTE ] Wah? I guess Hero is CO. [ QUOTE ] Villain seems to want you to fold, though, and you're getting just under 2-1 [/ QUOTE ] Hero has only $135 left and there's $333 in the pot. Thats 2.5:1. This is a very easy call unless you think villain has 66 or 86 more than 90% of the time. |

Re: PLO200: AKK8 on 886 2-color
If the $214 is meant to be on the flop after the check raise than it's 1.9:1 and it's still an easy call unless villain has 86 or 66 more than 70% of the time.

Re: PLO200: AKK8 on 886 2-color
Sorry, I did the manual conversion (no converter available) and screwed it up.
Corrected action below: [ QUOTE ] 2 folds, 3 limps, Hero/CO raises to $13 with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2 folds, BB calls, MP calls, Villain/MP+1 calls, HJ calls. Flop 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($66, 5 players) 4 checks, Hero/CO bets $66, 2 folds, Villain/MP+1 raises to $264, HJ folds, Hero/CO...? [/ QUOTE ] Hero does indeed have only $135 left. On the flop, was it OK to bet pot into this large a field effectively pot-committing me then? Is this where "wait for a safe turn" could possibly apply or (barring being checkraised) I am usually enough ahead of their range that I can just bet-call and get value from diamonds? |

Re: PLO200: AKK8 on 886 2-color
There is no reason to give straight draws, flush draws, and over pairs free cards here. There is a lot of pot equity to be gained by getting them to fold. Push them out or make them pay.
I wouldn't really be thinking about getting "value" out of them either because a lot of draws will actually have odds to call a pot bet if they knew your hand. |

OK, so I played this alright. Thanks for your comments, everybody.
Results in white: <font color="white">He also had A8xx but with the nut diamond draw so I had 30% equity. It was a split, and he semi-berated me basically saying I made a bad call.</font> |

Re: PLO200: AKK8 on 886 2-color
Its a split very often and other times hero is drawing to 2-5 outs. And we only have 2 redraw outs versus opponents 6-9. So its basically a negative freeroll so folding is allright.

Re: PLO200: AKK8 on 886 2-color
Don't make a big deal out of every donk that berates you. Most of the time, if they knew what they were talking about, they'd just shut up instead of trying to educate the rest of the table.
Anyway, this is a super standard call with stacks this short. If HJ covered you, it would be a different story. Back to general strategy on the hand though, I think this is a good spot to lead for ~2/3 of the pot rather than just potting. That way, it looks like you have a scared AA hand with the betting lead and you'll get more action from lower trips and draws shoving. |
