1-2 no limit, big three way pot on the river. Board is 5678x, four to the straight flush on the board. Player A bets 30, B raises to $90, C coldcalls, comes back to A, who thinks, then just calls. All have plenty of chips left.

The hands are shown and A has the 9h for the nuts. Player next to him asks "why didn't you reraise, you had the nuts?"

A replies "it's called control, sir."

Priceless. I'll be chuckling for days over that one.

Playing 8/16 at Wynn in June, I raise with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] , flop is all clubs, I lead out, old man calls.

Turn is a club, before I lead out, he tells me to save the bets, as he has a str8 flush.

At first I thought that maybe Wynn had introduced a jackpot, but nope, he was just a kind old man who wanted to save me my bets so he could 'show' that he had the str8 flush.

I've seen people bet on the river, and while their opponents are agonizing over a call, they show their hands. Weird business.

There is a guy in my home game who does this consistently on the turn...we all laugh and play along with him.

4/8 LHE

Utg leads river, 2 people call. "Hero" is last to act with the nut flush no pair on board. He...calls.

I ask him wtf he was doing, and he explains "the pot was big enough. The other guy bet for me. I didn't need to bet..."

Mirage 2/5 game a year ago, or so. Comes around to the river and I hold the nuts. Guy in front of me who has been laying down great hands all night to pressure bets $50 into maybe a $120 pot. Guy behind me is a calling station. I ponder a moment and just flat call. Guy behind calls. I quickly flip over my monster.

And the guy behind just flips. "HOW CAN YOU JUST CALL WITH THAT? What are you doing? Didn't you know you had the nuts? Not raising that is the stupidest thing I've ever seen." I'm just smiling trying to look dumb and raking in a pot (including his $50) but another player at the table suggests "maybe he knew you'd call if he just flat called, and knew you'd both fold if he raised? Ya think?" Which generated a couple chuckles from other players.

That shut up the guy behind, but I was wishing the player at the table hadn't been so helpful in explaining why I did it. FAR better to let GuyBehind sputter away and think I can't read my own hand than to basically tell him "we all know you're a calling station". But it was still fun.

3/6 limit at the local casino.

I raise with AA villain calls from the button. Flop is Axx, 2 hearts. I bet, villain calls. The turn is an os T. I bet, villain calls. River is a an os J. I bet, villain says "sorry" and calls with the nuts KQo. That was the start of a horrible night, luckily for me villain felt sorry for me as I probably would have lost at least a few more big bets, no way I could put him on KQ.
