I'm not sure you're beat. He could have a lot of 2-pair hands here. If he really has KJ, he is barely getting implied odds with that river bet. I'd call this.

Bet more on the flop (say, $2), and significantly more on the turn ($5, even an overbet).

Agree with the other posters - bet more on flop and turn. No guarantee at all he's got a jack here - a higher set is unlikely as AA-KK would probably re-pop you before the flop.

As played, I like your river line, assuming you called the $8.25.

So the consensus is that I should have bet more on flop and turn, check/call river? Thank you for your responses - I did call, and the tool showed JJ, which, I guess I got myself into by not betting more on flop and turn -

I do have another question for you all - if he did have two pair - why would he bet? If I have a J, he is getting check-raised all in, so why make a bet with two pair here? I raised preflop from UTG, and bet all the way till the river - could I not be the one with JJ here? Or like I had, a set, or even higher two pair than him unless he has AK? How is this not ALMOST always a J betting here? What I'm asking is, after the fact, how can I call this bet?

He appears to be a bad player, bad players don't think like this. He was checked to on the river on a coordinated board in his mind this is a great spot to bluff with a wide range probably, and he may even think his 2pair is good (becuase hes bad and doesn't think about hand ranges) or because he figures even if his 2pair isn't good he has decent chance to get you to fold, becuase of the coordinated board and now your river check.

Not all players think about hands the way you do...
