MPTK river value bet or check to induce bluff?
5/10 5handed
Button bluff to much and is pretty bad overall Preflop UTG fold, I raise AJo in the CO, Button coldcall, SB fold, BB call Flop: KJT two spades I dont have a spade BB check, I bet, Button call, BB fold Turn 6 of suit I bet, Button call River 3 spades didnt get there I ???? In this spot I check pretty often but I feel that too many players check behind with a hand that might have called a bet. Spades, Qx and Ax and not so likely 9x didnt hit so there are plenty of hands that he might bluff with but obv not call a bet with. Does it make a big diffrens if I have J2 instead? (obv I wouldnt raise it preflop but for the discussion assume I have J2) What about AT? AK? How do you play this versus an unknown? |

I would value bet unless he's an aggressive valuebettor.

Re: MPTK river value bet or check to induce bluff?
From your read it's a bet/call or check/call sitúation. I know from our msn-conversation that you probably won't agree with me, but if he's very likely to bluff I prefer a bet/call here. I think he will bluffraise enough to call a riverraise. And since he is bad he could also bluffcall some crappy hand that he would have checked.
BTW: Is it MikeHammer at "Svenska spel" that is villain in this hand? Against a player like him bet/call is surely the right play! |

Re: MPTK river value bet or check to induce bluff?
there is a difference between villains who bluff when checked to, and those who will raise on a pure bluff. it's important to differentiate the two if you can imo.
this comes down to how many of button's hands were draws and how many are worse hands that will call a bet/check behind. i think weak draws that missed make up a large part of his range (e.g. A9-A2,Q8-Q7,98 vs. J9-J7,T9-T7*) so i would check/call here. in fact, given the villain who bluffs far too much, i would check/call with AT and all pairs T and higher. i am leaning towards a c/r with AK and even AJ for value, while puking and calling simultaenously if 3-bet. *didn't include AT+,QJ, and some other hands because i believe they would have 3-bet PF or raised flop. |
