Should I still CB on big pots like this w/out reads? Sometimes I make the guy fold but when I don't, it costs me quite a bunch... What do you do?

There are two kinds of hands to worry about on the flop: made hands and draws.
A flop like this is less likely to hit an opponent in a fashion that gives him a made hand than a board with three different ranks, which makes a c-bet a good idea. The other likely hands here are straight or flush draws, in which case you actually have the best hand at the moment with the best two possible unpaired cards (unless opponent has A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]) which would make your bet a value bet. A combo draw like 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] would have much better equity, but in immediate value would still be behind your hand. In general, paired boards are rather good for c-betting. Go ahead and make one. |

I think a cbet is fine on a board like this. Your folding out any non paired hand. And may still have some FE against 88 or worse.
There is a great article on cbetting in one of the internet magazine issues here on 2p2 that I suggest you read. It goes over a lot about board textures and is very informative. |

I would raise more pre-flop. And decide to c-bet depending on how aggro/passive villain is, but generally I would c-bet against standard players or unknowns, and fold to a raise like this one.
