Then i thought the other guy might call to trap me with aces (?) or just have something not really good but good enough for the smaller all in. What would you do? think the push is alright? |

It's perfect -- you're looking to rep AK/JJ with the push, so that TT-QQ and AK/AQ will call. Think how much stronger a mid-size raise looks.
It's especially good in this situation (UTG push, flat call) |

Don't think this is great.
Cold caller probably has face cards, mid pockets. He is not thinking on the 6th level - UTG is tilting, you know the he knows this, you have a decent but vulnerable hand and want to get HU with shorty getting 2:1. I think he will call a raise to $25 or push over you with AK, TT, etc but might fold for your 200bb shove. He will call with any decent part of the flop getting 2:1. |

i actually didnt want to only raise without doing the all in one coz i dont want to necessarily see the flop with KK if i dont have to. The Ace would have slowed me down a lot tho

I assume the guy had QQ. Anyway i just don't see why a push like this would work. It would be better to 3 bet the villain and see where he is for cheaper. Then c-bet the flop. So that you lose money less often in instances such as these. Why would you think anyone would call you down light for their whole stack?

whats 3 bet? sorry im new . 3 times the amount of the call?
I like your thoughts about it tho, it may be better because usually (the guy had JJ, totally overplayed) noone would call other than AA or KK or so |

Against a thinking player I like this. It looks like a ridiculous squeeze you'd make with AK/AQ, 99-JJ. A thinking player is saying: "Well, he'd never just go straight all-in with the nuts, so I guess my JJ is fine". I think the straight push looks much less frightening than a re-raise to 20. Dunno if there are enough thinking players at NL25 but at NL50 this would definitely be a good play. If he had AA, tough.
EDIT: A 3-bet is a re-raise. Pre-flop the 2nd bet (UTG raises to $1, Button raises to $4) is called a 3-bet because the BB is the 1st bet. Post-flop, when you bet, villan raises and you re-raise, that's a 3-bet. |

nope, well played. [/ QUOTE ] I fail to understand. Why would a thinking player ever call here with anything less than QQ? |
