Tourney average is sometimes misleading because they just base it on the # of chips in play / # of people remaining. This isn't indicative of the "middle" chip stacks because there might be a few giant stacks or a ton of tiny stacks. The median stack size would be more accurate, but that is not listed.

When you are playing, you should at least keep an eye on the tournament average stack, but the most important situation is the one going on at your table. If you are below the tournament average, but the chip leader at your table, there isn't a whole lot you can do to get above average quickly.

Basically, don't let the average chip stack dictate the way you play. Your play should cater to your table and your plays made accordingly.

surely this can be worked out on stars by (players remaining/2) not sure if you need to + or - 1 from this figure, and on the player list in tourny lobby jus go to that player number to see median stack?

You can do this, but you would have to click around on peoples chips stacks when there are more than 30 people left (for most tournaments).

I don't get too caught up in the "average" stack for the tournament. I just worry about my table.

Assuming you want to know this for stealing purposes, you want to target stacks that are too deep to re-steal shove, but so shallow that they can't really 3-bet w/out committing.

So I don't know, like ~18BBs.
