What to read or study next for physical tells.
Hi,
I have just finished re-reading these three titles - Caros Book of Tells - Readem and Reap - Definitive Book of Body Language (Allen & Pease) To anyone who hasnt read the above books I would recommend them. This reading has certainly been a big help to my live game by being able to spot a tell or two per session. I have also noticed body language away from the table that has helped me with negotiations and business. I would like to know what you guys recommend studying next? Id like to syudy the subject in depth and it doesnt have to be specific to poker. |

Re: What to read or study next for physical tells.
Are there any decent videos out there on this topic? This is the one topic that would make for a great video. I always hear the Caro book is good, but man those 30 year old black and white pictures don't really do it for me.
There's a question: have tells changed over the past 30 years? IOW, do people who are strong/weak behave differently now with new tells than someone from society 30 years ago - or are tells so basic that 30 years is nothing? |

Real life is the best teacher for this. Go to a cafe where a lot of people are walking by, or the food court in the mall.

Re: What to read or study next for physical tells.
I think discussions on the topic definitely help (I never seem to see much of it around here, am I looking in the wrong place?) and I love how you're applying it all away from the table - this also helped me work on my reading abilities.
Assuming you now have a lot of knowledge of body language in your head I would start studying hand reading (through betting patterns). Once you put the two together you will definitely be able to much more informed decisions at the table. Remember - Physical reads are a much smaller aspect at the table then betting patterns! |

Re: What to read or study next for physical tells.
I find it fascinating, both at the table and away from it.
A lot of poker players undervalue physical tells - they feel that its something noobs overvalue (which they do) so they shy away from it. There was a thread in here sometime ago but I cant find it in the search function - I will look again later. |

Re: What to read or study next for physical tells.
Most of my play is live & the 2 things I use the most when reading hands is A. betting patterns B. villians's actions while I'm deciding what to do. Is he comfortable? nervous? quiet when usually chatty? deer in the headlights?
IMO, when you play in a casino environment any so called "tells" you pick up on really aren't that dependable because they are hard to decipher since you don't play with most of these people very often. |
