Weekend vs Midweek Players
I was looking at my recent live stats (3/6 to 5/10 limit hold em) and I noticed something interesting. For the past 100-ish hours over 14 sessions, it's been split evenly between weekend and midweek sessions. These were all fairly loose tables with 5-7 players seeing the flop. I have won in all of my weekend sessions for an average of +8BB/hr and l have lost in all of my weekday sessions for an average of -5BB/hr.
Obviously, small sample size, but it seems like an interesting springboard for discussion on how weekend warriors compare to midweek players. The only other difference I can notice between day of the week is that the weekday players had a higher percentage of white males in their 40s and 50s while the the weekend players had a higher percentage of males of all races in their 20s and 30s. Does anyone have any thoughts on the difference? Assume that we are talking more about places like riverboats and Indian casinos and not huge tourist destinations with multiple poker rooms, like Vegas or AC. |

Re: Weekend vs Midweek Players
I think your numbers are correct. Midweek players generally are better and tougher players, on average. Many of the players I see play every day, or at least two or three days a week. Weekend players are just that and usually only play Friday and Saturday nights.
Weekend players show up to raise hell, perhaps even book a win. Of course a few are very serious too. That makes for a unique playing field because it only happens two days a week, but there seems to be more opportunity. Sometimes even jumping times such as day to night makes for two different games. I have noticed when playing in the afternoon, around four the game starts a transition where the aggression goes up and skill goes down. As to the numbers seeing the flop, I find on weekdays the players are generally loose preflop and tighter postflop. On weekends they loose all the way through the hand. |

Re: Weekend vs Midweek Players
I noticed similar demographics and table dynamics. I've booked winning sessions during a weekday, but it is much tougher play.
Weekends, especially into the evening/night has the wildest games and I've had some huge nights but the variance is crazy. I like weekday play since you get to play more 'poker' on the weekends I just tighten up and wait for big hands and almost always get paid off by the donks that are puking up chips. |

"This Friday bro, I'm going to go cash my paycheck and head out to the casino bro. I'm gonna go get drunk and kick some ass at hold'em bro. Hell yeah! Bro, I'm so good at bluffing I'm going to bluff everyone at the table. I like bluffing preflop when I'm the first one to act. That way I get the first chance to bluff bro! I'm gonna buy in for $30 and sit at that $3/6 limit table. Hell yeah, this is gonna be awesome!"

I kept hoping for a hand..no luck. big hand..cap guy...2/8clubs..one club on flop..i think he 3 bet it (could have been 4)..runnner runner club... most painful for me was my pocket Aces..capped preflop...guy with 66(just 2 of us preflop)..3 bet flop...hits a six on turn...gg me... end of weekend...2/5 no limit guys..good for bankroll if you can hit a hand..me..not so much. |
