Default 3+R, Facing Push From Button w/ 77

Let me preface this post with some of my history. I have am a fairly good sit n go player with limited experience in tourneys. I won a 11$ turbo a few weeks ago for my 1st win. At this point, I am trying to get into the mindstate of MTT player. Please offer all advice.

My stack was average at this point and I had watched this player steal blinds from the button on numerous occasions. Is this a bad call?

Use converter please

Anyway, your pot odds are about 1.173 to 1 (calling 10970 into a 12870 pot), which are about 46%

Considering the following range

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 41.149% 40.93% 00.21% 479425176 2515026.00 { 77 }
Hand 1: 58.851% 58.64% 00.21% 686760708 2515026.00 { 88+, A8s, KJs+, ATo+, KQo }

you have 41% equity, so this isn't a good call.
If you loosen villain's range then its a break even call. I would fold here

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 46.057% 45.53% 00.53% 734351088 8547138.00 { 77 }
Hand 1: 53.943% 53.41% 00.53% 861545004 8547138.00 { 66+, A8s, KJs+, A8o+, KJo+ }

Surely he's pushing much wider than "{66+, A8s, KJs+, A8o+, KJo+}" and thus you should get your chips in the middle

Thanks for your response. I just found this site and was eager to post my question. After I posted it, I saw the mention of the hand converter... Noted for future reference.

I had seen this same player make these bold moves in the past. I was confident that I had the best hand preflop but once I lost the pot I wasn't so confident in my initial decision to call. This tournament strategy is way different than a sit n go.

Thanks.

no, its not a bad call.

a push from the player on the button who is extremely shortstacked has a very wide range of hands for pushing here. he needs to steal those blinds to stay alive and keep him in contention. if you didnt notice, when he steals the blinds he increases his stack by at least 30%. If I were him, I would be shoving almost any 2 cards.

77 is a monster here and a big favorite over his range. call and hope he doesnt hit some miracle. here he got lucky enough to find a real hand, it happens some times, but you lost a race and you took a good gamble here.

I stand corrected, you are right. I mistakenly didn't notice button's M ~ 5-6. Indeed, button's range is way more wide, so its a call.
