is it possable to win at limit holdem?
Well i've been swatting hard at this poker thing for quite some time, from most angles and one of two things are happening.
1) i'm making other players rich (fine by me) or 2) i'm making the casinos rich (well so long as it's fun) I thought this poker was going to be an easy game to master, seems it is not! How long does anybody think/suggest it takes to actually get to a stage where one can get to a break even point. I'm beggining to think its not possable. i'm playing very low stakes, no point in playing higher stakes till am more confident. question is, is it possable? if so does it take years to get to break even? (Have not given up the day job just yet) |

Re: is it possable to win at limit holdem?
No, it shouldn't take that long, to become a marginally winning player at micro limits.
Best bet is to post hands where you seem to be going wrong, and try and get a firm grasp of the basics of the game. |

Its possible to win at any form of poker. Learning how is the fun part.
Read the FAQ for the limit board and it should get you started. GL |

Well i've been swatting hard at this poker thing for quite some time [/ QUOTE ] the games are beatable...just not as crushable as they used to be. You probably have leaks that you arent even aware and its kinda hard to plug a leak if you cant spot it. youll probably get better results if you get involved in the strategy forums. The microstakes limit forum is the birthplace of many good players. Poker can be a lonely game when you just read books and play if you dont have people you can discuss hands with. When I say get involved I mean you should do more than just lurk. Get involved and reply to other peoples hands, get corrected and learn. And heres a final tip, the WHY you would take a particular course of action on a hand is more important than WHAT the action was. goodluck |

Do you play live only? What stakes? What is the blind structure and rake? Are your opponents very loose players (how many players see the flop on average)? Are they aggressive? Are they tricky? Are you a tight player? How aggressive are you?

1) i'm making other players rich (fine by me) [/ QUOTE ] Why is this fine with you? Your attitude about losing is the first thing you should change, because if you don't play to make money, then why look to get better? |

Re: is it possable to win at limit holdem?
Go to the micro stakes forum and post/read/learn. Towards the end of the month sign up for the monthly hand swap. [b]DO THIS IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE!![b/] The games up to the .5/1 level are very beatable.

2) i'm making the casinos rich (well so long as it's fun) [/ QUOTE ] Depending on the rake structure & other incidental costs for each session, it may not be possible to beat the lowest stakes games at your casino. Or at least, not to beat it for anything worth the effort. You could try depositing a few dollars on a poker site that offers "nanolimit" games, like 0.02/0.04, and work on your skills development that way. You obviously won't be winning a whole lot in dollar terms, but the rake is generally much lower for online games and you have zero incidental costs (no tipping, no parking fees, no noodle bar, etc). |

Re: is it possable to win at limit holdem?
When you start a pot in limit you raise it every time. Especially if you have a high pair or a good draw. You early if you have something like Queens and the flop comes like Aces or Kings or if you have something lower. Unless you have a good straight or flush draw. You don't want to invest too much in a pot or you'll lose more.
