quit Hold\'em to get better?
hi,i m not gone mad.
just a question or 2. i often red : playing multiple variant of poker(like stud) can help your game of poker in general. when i was playing chess,i find that when u took some time off for a couple of days,it did some good. i was thinking, even if im still far from knowing all there is to know in the books i have for HE,isnt a good idea to sometimes when u need a break(since u realize u play a bit too much mechanically and means u need to refocus),a way to achieve this is to take some time off from HE and maybe try for a couple of days to play some stud or omaha to kind like scramble your brain a bit and make u think a bit differently on new game and when u come back u might find knew ideas or anything like this?? without counting on "good" feeling aspects of learning new stuff and game like stud to regain a bit of discovery knowledge?? i think yes, but im not just sure if this would help a bit or is it just kind like a waste of time.... what i think i want to say is:if u need a little break from HE but u wish u still find an activities that could help your game still, could playing some stud or omaha on your time off help your HE game in anyway? i write this here since if i want to play a bit of stuff for the fun of it,i would play some micro limit anyway. ps:the reason that i ask this is for as well: i bought play poker like the pros from hellmuth last year and i often heard that even though is limit HE advices are not the best there is,his other advice like omaha or stud was pretty good for a beginner like for those games(stud). i mean i just maybe feel bad to waste couples of $ on it(PPLTP hellmuth) and wish i could make those $ be a better investement by learning stud... just dunno if this could help in anywya my HE games... what u think? im asking because they always say its good to know more then 1 form of poker??? |

King of the Kiddie Pool, like duh, obviously. See the thread in this forum. Play lots of odd styles of poker with the people here this weekend. Consume copious amounts of beer while doing it. I guarantee* you will have a great time and get better at poker.
*not actually guaranteed. |

*not actually guaranteed. [/ QUOTE ] Priceless. Wookies right, for just a few bucks you can get some experience with NL hold'em, some stud games (including Razz) and som Omaha high low. Plus you get some practice with tournament play, and the best of all is that you will be playing with people who at least pretend to know what their doing and are thingking players. The fact that most of the regular posters will be drinking (heavily) while they play means that anyone has a shot. So head on over to the KOTKP thread and see what it's all about. |

Also, Montreal, if I can make you feel completely self-conscious with just 8 letters, you need to get a thicker skin. Well, I guess it takes 8 letters to type "IP banned," but fortunately, no one in micro has yet been that (a) stupid, and (b) persistent.

Re: quit Hold\'em to get better?
The others have told you about KOTKP. I won't be playing because I don't have a Stars account and, well, I suck but it should be fun and educational for those who do participate.
I wouldn't suggest quitting hold'em, but dabbling in other forms of the game can only be helpful to your overall poker development. I need to start messing around with HORSE and for some time last year I was donking around at the Triple Draw tables. Playing pot-limit and no-limit games teach you about bet sizing and playing other forms of the game should help teach valuable skills that will translate to hold'em. |

Re: quit Hold\'em to get better?
To answer your question Montreal, if you're feeling burned out with LHE, then I think you should take some time off. Playing other games is always a nice change of pace if you're fine with the fact that you're probably much worse at other games you've rarely/never played than LHE. Also, by learning to play other games somewhat, you always have the chance to learn something new that you can apply to HE, or have something you didn't understand about HE suddenly click when you apply it in a totaly different situation than you're used to.
