Default MTT Bad Play, Any Advice?

Okay, I am still pretty bad at poker. I am learning a lot and I am getting better and better. I've played poker for a number of years but am only now getting into the intricacies of the game. This hand was played in a freeroll tournament that I played out of boredom.

It's a terrible play, but I'd like to know how you guys would've played it. Thanks.

Raise to 300-400 preflop. Bet/fold the flop.

Well... you got your chips in good... thats a good thing...

That pf raise... what logic is behind that? raising 10x the BB gets zero value from most any hand that we may have gotten value from and shows our opponent he can just go ahead and shove his chips on AA,KK in there and you're calling (There will be an overpair ~ 8% of the time at a full table when we are dealt QQ). You have basically open shoved 47 BB's & gave your opponent a clear view of your hand and how willing you are to go all the way with it. The best thing you could have hoped for here was AK, considering the alternatives.

Think of sitting behind a player that has open raised 10x, you have narrowed the calling range considerably (huge), what hand would you need to get involved in this action ? How does QQ rate against those hands? This is how to turn a premium starting hand like QQ into 72.

It may seem like a simple question, but why do you raise?

You lost a race in a freeroll tournament and you are posting it to 2+2? Dear god, man.

At least convert the HH next time. That was painful.

I would strongly suggest playing at least the 10 cent tourneys, at least you can begin to read opponents and play poker. It is difficult for anyone here to comment on freerolls as a high percentage of opponents are not thinking type players, reads are very important for discussion.

Here's the link for the hand converter (be sure to select 2+2 forums in the drop down).

Also, you will be amazed at the wealth of knowledge in the FAQ's and anthology's here, worth the time spent.
