Default SNG Sat. to advance to MTT...strategy for initial table?

Hello,

Been a LONG time since I posted on 2+2. Hell, I haven't played online poker in over a year. But I digress...

My question is for advice on how to play in a "1st and 2nd place from each table of 10 advance to the next round" type tourney. I believe after that is completed, the tournament becomes a regular MTT w/o rebuys.

I suspect that if you are given a decent amount of chips relative to the blind structure and assuming half the table is decent and half aren't (as this is a mostly comped invitational tournament at a Vegas casino) that I could play it as if it were a regular 10 man SNG.

Apparently (assuming 2000 entrants) 1st place is $10,000 + $10,000 seat at the WSOP '08 main event (which can be cashed in for cash equivalent...which i would do)

Thoughts welcomed and appreciated.

Its like a 1table shootout and than the top 2 finishers of this advance to a reg. MTT FO.

Play your first table like a 2 people sat.

I think every satellite is a shot in the dark, luck be with you game. Expect bad beats and prolly some of the worst poker. It's a double up early mentality... that said, I'd rarely raise preflop unless it's AA, KK. They're gonna give you their chips, so, if you can, be patient.

That's exactly what it is. So I'm thinking I try to play a lot of hands cheap (limp) and pound the flops that I catch a monster on as people will call all-ins with even top pair-no kicker. And if I have big pairs try to isolate 1 player at all costs. I don't suspect there will be a lot of complex post flop play until the first level is over. As mentioned, I think many of these people will try to gambool and gladly either double up or go home (get to the crap table) right away.

I emailed to get this and so far all I was able to determine is what I have told you. I got the stay at the hotel and entry free so wasn't concerned from a "will I participate" stand point. Will follow up with more if it becomes available or a trip report after if it doesn't.

From my experience playing sit and goes (note: its been years since I made a living off of SNGs) your strategy should be the exact opposite of what you posted.

You should probably play pocket pairs and AK in early levels and dump them when you miss and v-bet when you hit. This is because the bubble will last so long and the blinds will be so high near the bubble that an early chiplead will be essentially meaningless; all you want to do is survive the early levels.

When you get to later levels you should pushbot.

You should probably repost this in the STT forum when you get the structure. You should also probably read the stickies in the STT forum.
