5/10 NL at the Wynn, semi-bluff w/ AK
Deep 5/10 NL game at the Wynn's poker room in Vegas.
I have a tight image. Villain is a smart LAG player. I have about $1900, Villain covers. UTG straddles for $20. I raise UTG+1 to $80 with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Villain calls from SB. All other players fold. Flop Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Villains checks. I bet 160 Villain calls. Turn 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Villain checks. I bet 300. Villain check-raises 400 more to $700. I think for about twenty seconds and push all in for $1000 more. Results in white Villain thinks for a while and reluctantly calls with 55 for bottom set, river pairs the board and he wins the pot. What do you think of my line and the alternative plays below: - check the turn - bet less of flop As played, I think calling the turn is the worst (I prefer folding or pushing here). Opinions? |

i like this play more if you're deeper. as played, given stacks, there's not much villain is going to fold in that spot.

Yeah that was the topic of discussion afterwards, I think I correctly represented a better hand most of the time in that spot, but villain still has to call with most of his range because I only have 1K behind. The question becomes, how much do I need for the push to be correct? |

Re: 5/10 NL at the Wynn, semi-bluff w/ AK
This is kinda gross against smartlag for two reasons:
-Pretty often he will have such a strong hand he won't think twice and just put his money in, i'm talking about flush/set/straight. -You're trying to represent a big flush mostly after raising preflop UTG+1, people will (pretty correctly) not give you much credit here. He's likely to put you exactly on what you hold: Ace of spade with or without a queen. I would just call the raise and probably c/f unimproved. Folding to his raise looks pretty bad considering you're getting the direct odds to draw to your flush, and he might be forced to payoff sometimes considering how potcommited he will be. |
