Flopped a set - how did I play it?
Live 6-handed 1/2 home game. Villain is skilled, generally TAGgy player but capable of clever tricks.
Villain has about $180, hero covers. Hero: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] CO limps, button folds, SB (Villain) completes, Hero checks. Flop: K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] SB checks, Hero checks (intending to CRai CO, who is likely to bet when checked to), CO bets $6, SB calls, Hero CRaises to $16, CO folds, SB Villain calls. Turn: J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villain checks, Hero bets $36, Villain calls. River: K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Villain pushes all-in for about $120, Hero ???? |

Not really sure why you expected CO to bet this flop. I'd lead out. My c/r would be larger too.
Easy call. |

Re: Flopped a set - how did I play it?
i call this with ease, KJ raises the turn and prolly raises PF, i wouldn't be surprised to see a K or possibly 22...
lead flop and the c/r should be bigger, turn bet is nice to kick out draw and he isn't even overbetting the river... |

Re: Flopped a set - how did I play it?
Glad to see the votes for calling - I did, but with much hesistation. I, too, was considering K2 given the small-blindness but possibly also KJ. I really didn't expect to see KX here without the boat from this player. I exposed my hand and very nearly folded it, but decided that would be way too weak.
Turns out it was KJ - he thought his hand looked enough like a busted flush draw to get me to make a hero call and was slow-playing the turn, not realizing how strong my hand was from the beginning. Thanks for the replies. |

Re: Flopped a set - how did I play it?
well you can at least get up and go to the fridge and get your buddy a cold drink after he loses the pot.
If he does have a bigger boat...that's the life of poker. |

how do you fold a boat??? just bad timing brother... [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, that's the problem. I didn't think KJ was likely since I would have raised in that spot, just as he didn't put me on 55 because he knows I would raise in that spot. I just couldn't put him on KX (non-boat) in that spot because he would have to put me on at least a K I would think... Bad luck, but I'm glad I didn't get a bunch of "Fold. Standard." posts - I feel better about my call (even though I did strongly consider the boat - problem was it would almost have to be K2 only the way it played out). Also folding is waaay too weak. |
