Hi MTT, got a hand here that i would really appreciate some feedback on as my friend/backer and I took very different lines when we discussed it. As mainly a cash game player Im also looking to see if some of the assumptions I made during the hand and about tounry play generally were close/wayoff etc, TIA!(HH is manual cos the site's is terrible)
Hand is from 100K freezeout. Blinds are 1600/3200/160. Hero has 41,768, villan has 43,133. We have no history. Villan seems pretty "standard" ie not overly aggresive/passive or overly loose/tight. Hero is OTB, Villian is BB. Pre flop: Folds to Hero, Hero has A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Hero rasies to 7200, SB folds, BB calls. Flop: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Villan checks, Hero bets 8000, villan calls. Turn: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Villan checks, Hero checks. River: J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Villan bets 9600, Hero has 26,408 left, Heros line? Guess I should just put the HH out there and get some feedback before i reveal my thought process during the hand??? Results, my and my backers thoughts to come. Thanks again. I think he puts you on an ace and since he's calling you with no draws to speak of on the flop, you should beware cuz he either has a similar hand to you (which you'll split) or he has you beat with 77 or maybe AQ/QJ.
meh not easy but I'd probably lay it down. |

Why so small a bet pre-flop? You're giving him odds to call with pretty much anything.
I also doubt he has AQ, AJ, or QQ - we'd be expecting a re-raise from those surely? The way he played it could be quite a cheap way of him trying to take a c-bet away from you. He could have a queen, or even a seven... If you bet more pre-flop you've a) got a better chance of taking it down then and there, and as you can see, A5 is a sh*t of a hand to be playing post-flop. You'd also do a better job of defining your hand. The way you've played it you can't really make any assumptions about what he's got. Bet 3-4xBB pre-flop, bet 10k on the flop if he checks to you. If he's still in the hand then, then you pretty much know you are beat. |

This is a very standard push pf.

[ QUOTE ]
This is a very standard push pf. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know about standard, M is a bit high for that. I don't mind a push, but I also don't mind a decent raise of 3*BB with a chance to back out if you experince much resistance. Your stack is ok just now, so I think you have a few options. I will however stick by my point that the 2*BB is pretty weak and him odds to call with pretty much anything. EDIT----- Hmm, just looked at the stacks again, the M is lower than I thought... seems like I can't do maths... Standard push. |

imo, if you are still raising 3x at this point in the tournament you are throwing away chips.

You're absolutely right, I'd miscalculated the blind to stack ratio. As soon as I posted I noticed my mistake, hence the edit to my original post.

Pushing is ok. I call the river. Pot odds are too good to fold TP IMO.
