Ever dump the 6 and keep the 8?
I heard situations like this might arise sometimes but never really encountered them. So might you ever find yourself in a situation where you would discard a 6 and draw to an 87? I found myself in the cutoff with this hand: 5c 7d Ad 6c 8h. UTG poster checks, and I just folded. But it got me thinking. I guess the basis of my question is: is 875 better than 8765 (assuming you had to play it)? Can you ever think of a situation where you would volutarily put money in the pot then dump a 6 and keep an 8?

Re: Ever dump the 6 and keep the 8?
Assuming this is 2-7 TD, 765 > 865 > 875 in most situations. Deciding whether to draw one or two is more complicated. However, all of these should almost always be folded anyway.
I've been in quite a few situations, almost always in HU play, where I've kept an eight while discarding a seven. I can't imagine why you would ever drop a six. |

Re: Ever dump the 6 and keep the 8?
Maybe my thinking is off but I think 865 is better than 765 because you can catch a 2 or 3 and now have a decent draw instead of just the two as with 765. If im playing HU im both raising and defending with 865xx and folding 765xx.. bad?
also if i had 8765 and some crazy reason made it to the draw in a ring game im dumping the 7. |

In either case I'm snowing or racing a lot more than I'm playing for smooth value; I'd rather have the chance to make #3 or #4 and win a big pot than the extra shot at #9 or worse. It is close, though, and you might be right. If I get a freeplay in the BB though I'd always rather draw to 765. |
