alignment help
Anyone got some good advice for helping with alignment? So many times I hit the ball correctly but my lousy alignment had the shot going in the wrong direction from the get go.

Re: alignment help
Yea, when practicing always have a couple of clubs on the ground.
First club should be to the right of the ball (RH golfer) and pointing towards your target. Second club should actually be BEHIND your feet. The toes can lie to us in alignment if we flare them out, the heels do not lie. Second when you're on the course make sure you do this when addressing the ball: 1. Set the club down behind the ball pointing towards your target. 2. STILL LOOKING AT THE TARGET step into your stance. Your eyes will naturally align you more properly this way. Good luck |

Re: alignment help
Laying clubs on the ground when you is helpful. Just make sure you align them parallel to your target line not at your target. Take your time to get it right this is one of the variables in golf that you have 100% control over so you might as well get it right.

Re: alignment help
I think alignment is one of the most overlooked concepts is golf, proven by the lack of interest and response in this thread!!!
One quick tip I give people who are struggling with alignment is this: 1) First of all, always have a target especially off the tee. Many times, people just step up to the ball and try to hit towards the fairway. Try to choose something in the distance (ex. a telephone pole or a particular tree) to aim at in order to hit your ball in the fairway. 2) And second, once you have your target, focus on a something about 3 feet infront of your ball and aim your clubface towards that. For example, if I tee up a driver, I first find a distant target, then I aim my clubface at the intermediary target (ex. a leaf or a blade of grass) directly infront of my ball. Once my clubface is aligned to the target, then I align me feet so they are in a parallel line with my clubface. Hopefully this little tip helps, and best of luck finding more fairways and more greens!!! |

Re: alignment help
At the risk of inducing slower play I believe you cannot have consistant set up without a consistant pre shot routine. I completely agree with trsh335 re far and near alignment points. I also believe you must develop a consistant routine for steping into a shot. For a right hander it means steping in from 45 degrees behind, placing your right foot, aligning your clubhead with your near reference point, and then bringing in your left foot to your normal square, open or closed position. This allows you to square your hips and sholders with your feet along the proper line. You should practice on the range until it becomes second nature.
I got the tip during a playing lesson from the teaching pro I work with and it has been the best tip I have ever received. Try it at the range, you will hit fewer balls per hour, but improve faster. wally |
