KK 3 left 8:5:2 stack ratio dillema (or not)
Earlier this morning, 12k Guar $33 514 entrants
I've made some gut wrenching laydowns preflop in last 2 tables, AQh to a 3.5BB EP raise with read (he had QQ),a TT to a push (shown KK), survived my way through final table and made it to top 3. Then KK fell in my hand. Chip leader, since final table has been running incredible, stacking 3 opponents (almost consecutively) w/ overpair and Ax domination. Anyways on with the hand, KK in bigblind, with short stack so far behind when chip leader min-raised, I almost wanted to just smooth call, play it safe because if I had played it I was practically guaranteed 2nd and a good shot at 1st. I got a little greedy, I reraised, and was going to be happy w/ just stealing there, however as you can see, he pushes and of course I had to call. What I want to ask is, should I have smooth called and played flop accordingly(praying for no ace) according to viable tourney strategy? Or did I make the right move and just got semi-ed in the face w/ a 3 outer. 0/0 Tourney Texas Hold'em Game Table (NL) (Tournament 20420902) - Thu Feb 23 15:02:23 EST 2006 Table $12K Guaranteed(607974) Table 1 (Real Money) -- Seat 9 is the button Total number of players : 3 Seat 4: BINGOBANGO20 (198969) Seat 7: abcstore (534300) Seat 9: salbro (808731) BINGOBANGO20 posts ante (700) abcstore posts ante (700) salbro posts ante (700) BINGOBANGO20 posts small blind (15000) abcstore posts big blind (30000) ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to abcstore [ Ks, Kc ] salbro raises (60000) to 60000 BINGOBANGO20 folds. abcstore raises (170000) to 200000 salbro raises (748031) to 808031 salbro is all-In. abcstore calls (333600) abcstore is all-In. Re: KK 3 left 8:5:2 stack ratio dillema (or not)
Actually this is something i am trying to correct in my game. I have to keep reminding myself. i have a pair (monster here) and don't need to see all 5 cards. Then when i have AK or maybe AQ, that this is when i want to see all 5 cards.
That being said, your play here is fine, primarily because his initial bet was only a minraise, so I would have reraised here regardless. I want more chips going into the pot before i'm satisfied with taking this pot down. It was just unfortunate that he sucked out on you. |

Re: KK 3 left 8:5:2 stack ratio dillema (or not)
I'm definitely re-raising here. I'm also delighted to get them AI pf with KK. He caught a 3 outer to win. Had you won (I think you are at least 5:1 here but don't have pokerstove at work) then the tourney is over.
The fact that he had been running incredible has absolutely no bearing on your hand. That's just poker. Better variance next time! |

Re: KK 3 left 8:5:2 stack ratio dillema (or not)
Had you waited to the flop to get the rest of your chips in, you probably would have won the hand.
However, by getting it all in preflop, you had a 70% chance to double up. If you had waited until the flop, he likely wouldn't have put much more into the pot, and you would have won a small pot rather than having had a chance to win a huge pot. Bad beats suck, but you played this fine. |

Using my trusty calculator I see that you have ~6% chance of catching an A * 5 to come, so 30% is pretty easy to guesstimate. Anyway, I bet villian was sh*tting bricks when he saw the hand. |

Re: KK 3 left 8:5:2 stack ratio dillema (or not)
when your big pairs get cracked at the FT, there is very little you can do...
be happy getting your money in good and know there is NOTHING you could have done differently to change the outcome... |

Re: KK 3 left 8:5:2 stack ratio dillema (or not)
Yeah. I've had KK and JJ run into AA playing 6 and 3 handed this week at FT's. At least you were able to get your chips in as the favorite, heh.

wow, we haven't had one of these in a while. Brings me back to the days when these 'bad beat stories poorly disguised as a "should I have stop and go'ed" story" circa 2004 2+2 Tournament Board (before they had MTT/STT/WPT)
i feel old. |
