100NL: Marginal Overpair Vs. Semi-Unknown
Just sat down a few hands ago, and I don't recognize anybody (which means they don't recognize me). The villain is unknown, but PT has 20 hands on him (50/10/1.67), and I'm willing to assume this means he's terrible.
Against unknowns, I often try to keep the pot from getting out of control until I have some information on them. Is this a bad idea? Comments welcomed on all streets. Ultimate Bet - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.50/$1 Blinds - 9 Players SB: $78.55 Hero (UTG+1): $100.00 MP1: $29.20 BTN: $107.95 Preflop: Hero is dealt T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (9 Players) UTG folds, Hero raises to $3.50, MP1 calls $3.50, 3 folds, BTN calls $3.50, SB calls $3.00, BB folds Flop: ($15) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 Players) SB checks, Hero bets $8.00... Too small? On this board, I think this looks like a weak c-bet and invites a lot of calls from 44-88, two high cards, etc. If I bet $12, I think I lose a lot of value from those types of hands because they probably fold. Yes? No? ...MP1 folds, BTN calls $8.00, SB folds Turn: ($31) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players) Hero checks... I'm not too worried about anything on this board, as it looks like a WA/WB situation. Against a passive semi-unknown like this guy, I like to use this move. If they check, I can assume they have a good hand, and I just b/f the river. If they bet, I feel like I'm ahead of 9-x a lot, and I can value bet the river for more than I'd bet as a blocker. Is this a bad line? ...BTN bets $14.00, Hero calls $14.00 River: ($59) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players) Hero bets $15.00 planning to fold to a shove... I'm not sure why, but I didn't completely trust my read since 20 hands really isn't enough to be sure, so I made a tiny river bet. I really feel like I should have bet $25ish here. Please help me size this blocking/value bet. |

Re: 100NL: Marginal Overpair Vs. Semi-Unknown
Flop: I would bet more. Your hand isn't THAT great.
Turn: Looks good to me River: I think $25-30 is a good range to block there. |
