Brandless beer commercial
Yesterday I saw a beer commercial that had different people saying "cheers" in just about every language in every country on the planet. No brand names were mentioned, at the end of the commercial it just said something like:
www.beerisgood.com Obviously I got the url wrong, but has anyone seen this commercial? What is the url? I'm mostly curious why someone would simply advertise for beer. I know milk does it but that's a little different. |

Re: Brandless beer commercial
people do ads for beef, milk, pork, plastic, etc in general. i've never really thought beer was lacking in ad exposure though.

Re: Brandless beer commercial
anheuser-bush (i believe) paid for the ads, but the beer institute is financed by miller and some other assorted producers.

Re: Brandless beer commercial
It premiered on the Superbowl and was paid by Annheuser-Busch. I think it was done in conjunction with some beer council. As to why, AB has tons of money, and their brands are well known so they definitely can afford to do some non traditional stuff. Also, as to why, if Americans buy more beer, AB will sell more beer, so they don't need to always be "Bud, Bud, Bud"

Of course the CEO could of simply gone, "Screw it I want to try something different". Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see how this commercial is about as close to +EV or even remotely close to +EV for AB as a commercial that actually says their name. -drunk on Guinness wacki |

Re: Brandless beer commercial
there's a saturation point with marketing beyond which diminishing returns kicks in. anheuser busch i'm sure have data that shows they're already past that point with their television advertising. there's strict laws on when and where you can advertise beer, so there isn't really many options for them to spend surplus advertising budget.
the beer council ads actually make sense as they demonstratably increase beer awareness (and theoretically consumption) but they sidestep the saturation issue. anheuser busch also get a lot of goodwill out of this, especially when miller idiotically come out and say they'd rather advertise their own beer than join industry peers in promoting beer in general. |
