Default Middle Set 10-25NL at the RIO

Effective stacks are $6200. I have been at the table for about an hour and villain just got back from a dinner break and we only have about a round and a half of history together. He's pretty young probably about 22-25 or so and like most young guns, aggressive as far as I can tell.

Mississippi Straddle is on and he raises first in UTG+1 after both blinds folds to $200. One cold call in middle and I cold call in cutoff with 55. Button folds.

Flop ($685) As5s3h

Villain checks, CC checks and I bet $300. Villain raises to $800 and CC folds.

What's your move?

Call with the intention of raising most turns seems best.

Call and raise most turns sounds good to me, too.

But I like a bigger flop bet. Most people are playing most hands the same way whether you bet $300 or $450: they are calling/raising with any A or flush draw and folding anything else. A smaller bet might help you to induce a c/r bluff or one peel from KK, but I don't think it's worth missing out on a bigger bet from hands that can legitimately give you action.

I just called with the intention of raising the turn. I call the extra $500.

Turn ($2285)4h

Villain checks.

What's your move now?

raise the flop and stack off happily. With the $50 straddle, you don't have much more than 100 bbs.

bet the turn as played

meh i dont necessarily mind checking.

i think his turn CR range is really damn strong against a set of fives (often crushed, sometimes lots of outs against, rarely crushing them), whereas a lot of his range that calls a turn bet is usually tanking and folding to another bet (stuff like AK/A3). i think this is worth effectively giving up a free card and underrepping ur hand while not necessarily losing boatloads of value. thats assuming you flat the flop cr, where im usually just rr'ing again because ppl felt AK in that spot.

I do not think he called the flop for pot control, I think it was to raise the turn, not lose him if he is bluffing ect.

2/3 pot
