Well-Has anyone here won a "ME Seat" online but just kept the cash? On Pokerstars ,Full Tilt or whatever.
Just interested what proportion of "ME Seat Package" winners on the various online sites have just treated it as a $10000 plus cash prize and kept it. |

I was discussing this with a friend yesterday. The large majority of people winning seats online are crappy players who would never consider blowing 10k on a tournament. That said, I think most of them are dull enough to actually go to the main event instead of taking the money. They won't convert 10k into a tournament seat, but they won't convert a tournament seat into 10k either.

I know a poster on this site who won a seat and then blew the 10K within 2 weeks playing higher than he should have. He's still going to Vegas during the ME (plane ticket was already booked) but I'm pretty sure he isn't planning on entering.

I didn't win a ME ticket this year but I had a plan for what I would have done if I had. Go to Vegas, play one of the smaller buy in events that are more similar to the online formats that I'm used to and if I did well, plunk down the 10k, otherwise keep the rest.

I have a friend who qualified through FTP and doesn't plan to play unless his bankroll goes up considerably. He played in the WSOPME in 2005 and 2006, FWIW.

Even though I think I am +EV in the ME I wouldn't play it without at least a 100k roll and I don't have that... I figured that's why there were so many entrants in the $1500 and $2k NL events. |

[/ QUOTE ] This is what I expect a lot of people are doing. I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago and whenever the number of entries there would be in the ME came up in conversation at the tables (quite often) I threw out my theory that it was going to be lower (I guessed 7-8k) in spite of the larger turnouts for the lower buy-in events. My theory was based on the feeling that a lot of people were doing exactly what you planned. |

I got in through Stars, and even though I know that I should have kept the cash, I decided to think of it as a free vacation with a lottery ticket attached.
