Deals on Deals - what's the problem?

Here's some chat from The Sunday Second chance FT. They chopped when it was 4 handed, leaving 10K for the winner.

Once it got to HU, the following chat happened:

Dealer: We are now Heads Up

NOXQZEZ: want to play or split the 10k
NOXQZEZ: gg
HostRichardR [Support]: 27k on the way
HeadwoundHal: can we still deal?

Dealer: NOXQZEZ, it's your turn. You have 15 seconds to act
HostRichardR [Support]: No sorry the deal is complete
NOXQZEZ: ok
HeadwoundHal: didnt think so



Why would this be an issue? The two of them are basically playing HU for 10k. If they choose to split that up, why would it matter if a deal was agreed upon earlier? That deal is still valid - they're making a 2nd deal for the side pot.

they always run it for X dollar amount, and from what I gather only the winner can get it, and it can't be chopped. They can't chop it HU for the same reason they don't with 4 people left.

They didn't choose to leave the 10k, it was mandated.

you must leave some money for the winner in every online deal i believe, someone explained in a previous thread how it prevents collusion early on during the ft

This is the stars 2nd chance - no mandated amount to be left on the table. If there was such a rule for this tourney, I'd understand the situation.

Originally the support person gave them the numbers for a chip chop (4 handed). They debated a bit, then decided (by themselves) to leave 10k on the table to play for.

Then it got to HU, and the two that were left were told that they couldn't split that 10k, as the deal was already made.

I don't understand why they can't deal on the money they left on the table. Is there an ethical issue I'm not seeing?

But it's not because of a mandated $X on the table - tourneys that have this rule have it explicitly stated in the lobby. The Sunday Second Chance does not.

Probably it's a programming / systems / etc issue... We all know that Stars' dealmaking is not super high tech..

Well, the correct strategy in a tournament changes if you change the payout structure. I guess they have this rule because if two of the four players know that they plan to chop heads-up if they get there, it's not fair to the other two players who don't know this. But by that logic, wouldn't you have to prohibit deals completely?

The support guys at final tables have seemed kind of incompetent to me lately TBH. About a month ago I chopped a tournament heads-up with another 2+2er and support gave us the wrong numbers for the chip chop. I noticed that I was getting more money than I deserved so I asked him if he was sure his numbers were correct. He said yes so I let it go, and I PM'd the 2+2er and told him I'd transfer him the balance in a couple of days if Stars didn't notice the situation themselves and correct it. Someone did notice so I didn't have to transfer him anything.

More recently I was heads-up in a double shootout to the $1050 Sunday Million. I had about 25% of the chips in play and we decided to chip chop. Support told us that they don't run chip chop numbers for you in satellites. WTF? I calculated the numbers myself and so did my opponent, so we still made the deal. Maybe these situations aren't common but it seems like the quality of their support isn't what it used to be.

Warm Up and Second Chance are 2 different tournaments, only the Warm Up leaves 10K to the winner.
