Venting...

Im not 100% sure why im typing this. but i think i just need to vent for a few minutes so my friends dont bash my skull in for bitching so much.

i feel like im running thru [censored] quicksand. have been for the last 6months or so. Ive been playyin poker for about 3yrs. after a yr, i had developed a full blown gambling problem (thnx to constant trips to the casino and takin poker money into the pits). i curbed the issue myself, and have a great ammount of self control with it (i havnt made a bet in about 1.5yrs)

in Jan 2007 i decided i was rly gonna focus and put time into poker. rly wanted to focus on grinding, self control, and bankroll management. in the last 6months ive made about $3.5K from poker, including RB and such. and have moved from 25 to 100nl.

however, 3.5K is garbage. its an absolute disgrace in my eyes, even as a college student. i kno that i havnt run particularilly well...but its gettin to the point where its painful. i feel like i cant have 2 winnin sessions. for every one winning session i have, im gettin nailed with 3 losses right behind it.

this post is rly coming because i have to move down. ive been tryyin to move up to 100nl fulltime, but after yet another losing session, im moving down to 50nl. i feel like i cant get on the good side of variance for anything. i feel like i can run set into the nuts so many times, but ill never fill up. i can run TPTK into any set. i can make sure every KK runs into AA, and every AA runs into 2pr (with an improvement ratio of about -32% for me). im just sick and tired of runnin like this. i run like this online, run like it live, i run like this when im playin for fun with friends. its just becoming perfectly standard

it prob doesnt help that im surrounded by ppl that are doin quite well. and dont get me wrong, i wish nothing but good things for them, but wtf? im glad they get to run well, their plays get to work, and they get to cash in MTTs for good sized scores. but when the [censored] do i get to do it? when the hell do i get to have a monster session or 2? when do i get to have a good month?

odd thing is, the only thing in life im ME ME ME about is poker. i understand ima fatalist when it comes to luck. i understand that. but srsly, i feel like im [censored] due. variance cant skull [censored] me forever can it? at this rate, ill b [censored] grinding 50nl forever. just a few small wins coupled with 3-6BI loss sessions. im constantly workin on my game, constantly learning, and constantly thinking about what im doin and why. when the [censored] do i get actually win a damn thing so i can b show ppl that im not just wasting my time.

i [censored] hate this game right now.

again, i have no idea why i wrote this. just hoping it makes me feel a lil better. sry if i wasted ur time

Man, I feel ya. I'm going through a similar period right now. It seems like everytime I go up 2-3 BI, I get smashed on my next couple sessions (KK v. AA AIPF) that kinda stuff. I'm grinding the micros too, but I'm usually in 10NL and 25NL.

One thought that has come into my mind is that I may be putting myself in some very high variance situations.

One thing I'm looking forward to is (hopefully) building myself up to the SSNL level. What I find hard about the micros is putting people on hands. I dont know if youre running into this too, given you have far more experience than myself, but if a guy is 60/8/1.5, how can I really put him on a range? When he bets into me on the flop, I look at the flop and think "Well, he could literally have anything right now" I guess you just wait for hands and value bet the [censored] outta him, but I wanna be able to outplay people, not just win by getting good cards.

I guess the usual suggestions are gonna be take a break, dont play, go workout, etc. One thing that has helped me is re-reading a book I have.

I hope you feel better after writing this, and I'm usually conflicted about giving advice to people that I think will help them get better at poker, but if you are "running TPTK into a set" your play probably needs a lot of work.
