PokerStars $10 No-Limit Hold\'em, Preflop: Reraise - What to do?
$10 PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, (9 handed)
The Situation We were in the third hour of a deep stack tournament: 5000 starting chips, small blind was t100, big blind was t200, blind level duration 30 min. There were approximately 450 from 931 players left (81 places paid). The blinds were about to raise in a few minutes to the next level (t100/T200, 25 ante). Reads on Villain The villain was a tight aggressive player. VPIP: 27%, preflop raise: 10%, based on 115 hands. This player was used to "longball" play. He didn't play very often, but when he did, he played with maximum aggression. The Table BB (t7500) UTG (t20532) UTG+1 (t16007) MP1 (t24125) MP2 (hero) (t9689) MP3 (villain) (t25316) CO (t12220) Button (t8665) SB (t16736) The Action on the Table so far Preflop: Hero is MP2 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 3 folds, hero raises to t856, MP3 (villain) raises to t3000, 4 folds, hero to act. The Question What would you do and why? Thanks in advance for your advise. I appreciate it. SunKidDance |

Re: PokerStars $10 No-Limit Hold\'em, Preflop: Reraise - What to do?
Fold. Calling 1/3 of your stack with AQs OOP seems like a bad idea. If you were deeper I can maybe see a call and if you were shorter maybe a shove.
It's a deepstack and you still have a lot of play left |

Re: PokerStars $10 No-Limit Hold\'em, Preflop: Reraise - What to do?
Raising is bad because you have no FE, your behind his range & you've put in <10% of your stack so far. Calling 1/3 of your stack OOP with AQs is also pretty awful. That leaves folding. The only time I'd play here was if I'd been very laggy and I thought he'd be reraising me with a wide enough range that AQs was in good shape, and then I could shove, but that seems rather unlikely.

Easy fold. Raise less so you're not losing as much when this happens. There are no antes, so 550-600 would be standard.

I fold AQs here OOP, but I probably push AKs...
You fare a lot better against his possible 3bet range with AKs instead of AQs, so I would probably push with AKs. |

as played out, i fold given villain's stats and reads on him. also, like others have said, calling that much of your stack OOP w/ AQs is bad. and again, raise less. standard 3x raise should be fine.

fold. You showed strength with an EP raise, and he came over the top.

Re: PokerStars $10 No-Limit Hold\'em, Preflop: Reraise - What to do?
Hi,
thanks for the answers. The opinions are unambiguous: a clear fold. The hand unfolded like that: hero called t2144. Why did i call? I saw the disadvantages as mentioned above, but i went with the odds: I had to invest t2144 in a t4156 pot, thus i got roughly 1:2 pot odds. The suspected hand range of the villain was {JJ+, AK, AKo}. With AQs i got sufficient pot odds. Clearly, this thought process was flawed, because i had to take into account the further situation of the hand on the flop and afterwards. Flop: (t6300) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players), hero to act. What would you do now? SunKidDance |

Cheeeeck... you lead out and you're getting raised.
Edit: I concur this is a fold PF. |
