Default Taxi tips? Alright, what\'s the correct amount for limos?

Lots of different answers in the taxi thread. So, what should I be tipping for my limo rides?

a) Catch a limo from LV airport to Bellagio - riding with my wife or alone, and it's a 15 minute ride. If the fare is $20, is the tip more since it's a limo? $10?

b) Freebie limo drive from the airport picked up by poker site or business (paid for by marketing for tournament, or business associate for business trip). No cost, water/snacks etc. in back - trip again to Bellagio or Caesars. What's a reasonable tip? $20, or am I a cheap-azz?

c) LA trip (another freebie)- airport to poker - and it's a 45 minute ride with traffic?

i have no experience with the short limo rides. when i get a limo in vegas its for about an hour which costs around $125, and i tip $25-$50. i think that is pretty standard.

I tipped 40 on 40 last time cause I was drunk. I think 10 on 40 is fine

I can answer one of these, as I am good friends with an owner of a fairly large limo company.

If it's a business trip, with an invoice sent back to the business (and probably an ongoing contract relationship), such that you aren't the one paying for the ride, then no tip to the driver is expected. An automatic tip for the driver is included in the invoice sent back to the business.

Sometimes the driver will imply otherwise ("hey, what's wrong, didn't you like my service?"). If the driver hits you up for a tip, say "isn't the tip already included in the invoice?" and if he says no, give him $20 then tell him you will be calling the company to verify his story. He'll be fired that afternoon. The $20 keeps your karma intact for ruining his job.

You can, of course, tip for service above and beyond, but just opening doors, having water, etc. is expected and not above and beyond.

I'm not sure about what the right protocol is though when Caesar's just sends their limo to pick you up at the airport. My answer above is when you are visiting a business and they send a contract limo service to pick you up. I imagine that the driver working for Caesar's just gets some "adequate" hourly wage and probably would appreciate a decent tip.

Whenever I take a limo to the airport I tip $20. I live about 40 mins away from the airport.

dog,

As OoC said, Business trips almost always have 20% tip added for driver. If the driver is nice, I'll often tip him $5-10 more.

For airport<->casino trips provided by casino, I usually tip $10.

For a limo I'm paying for, I tip 20% - your $20 fare I'd tip $5.

It's not neccessarily true that a tip is included. 15% is common to be added on. 20% is actually the decent thing to do. (I drove, but not anymore, except on New Years, Super Bowl and when I can't come up with a good excuse on fight nights.)

$20 limo to Bellagio? ROFLMFAO!

$20 tip, maybe.
