Default Beat: house broken into

wtf. Stupid hellhole of a city. Called the cops 2.5 hours ago and they still haven't shown up. How long do I wait before bugging them again?

Strangest thing--I can't figure out how they got in. No windows broken, no sign of forcing a door. The garage door opener was disabled and the side door out of the garage has a pet door in it which was half opened, but that door was still locked. The back door was left wide open, so I assume that's how they left.

They got a laptop that I bought for ~1k, $600 in cash and two knives. They left my quite nice desktop, my ipod, my camera, my pool stick. There's nothing else really of value in my house.

Pet doors are really easy to crawl through.

I'm 150 lbs and I used to always go through the pet door to get cokes out of my grandma's garage when I was playing basketball and didn't want to bug her. I could probably put on 25 pounds and still do it.

Well the pet door has a slide cover over it. It was only half opened. So I doubt someone went through it unless someone can fit through half a pet door. Very small kids would have a tough time getting through that.

The only explanation is that they opened it enough to reach up (tough I think) and unlock the door. But then they decided to relock it? Strange either way.

Almost 3 hours and still no cops. %(*#@*@!@!

They punched the lock on the backdoor.

What does punching a lock mean? Picked?

So how do I make my house more secure? Buy a security system? Are those really even worth it?
